Urban 01 first entered the scene with spanish hip hop group Alter Ego, formed by him and So Serious Ent. artist Big James, in the pursuing of his career he relocated to Orlando, FL, to finish his studies in the Film Industry, while there him, his brother Tha Author, present VP and Business Manager for the label and VP and A&R for the label Cre’zie decided to form UMZ, they first collaborated together for the song ‘Give ‘em Some’ by Alter Ego ft. Cream of the Crop, where Urban 01 was part of Alter Ego and Cre’zie and Tha Author were part of Cream of the Crop. The desicion of developing this new project came, on a meeting one day, where they decided that they needed something with fresh music and lyrics based on the day to day life of their members, something that anyone could relate to, even if that someone is a upcoming artist, or just a music listener. UMZ’s first full length album is under development, it has been temptatively named ‘Based on a True Story’, hoping to release it August 2009, the album according to Cre’zie’s statement in early february ‘we want to make the album real, talking about things that happen to people all around the circle, not about money, not about where you even if you are on the top already, but of the struggle you encounter whenever you want to get there’.

How did you get that name? We wanted to give our group a name that represented in every aspect what we do, we thought urban Mastermindz was the perfect fit for it, taking a different approach to our music and trying to combine all genres with hip hop.
What has been your biggest accomplishment? We are about to finish our first full length album
What has been your most difficult challenge? Well get ourselves out there, between school and trying to be a full time artist
What makes you different? What makes us different is that we try to combien real stuff, with fun stuff, in a mixture of hip hop and other genres, but not in a real underground level, we try to make it on a mainstream level
What projects are you working on? A Mixtape and our first full length album
